I had organised the day before at Striders to run the back end of the marathon course with AndrewT and Fats as I figured this was the only opportunity I would have of keeping them within sight at that point of the course! We headed off from Montage at 6.00am up Lilyfield Road towards the city. We made our way along the or as close as possible to the course through Lilyfield, White Bay, Pyrmont the city and the rocks. It was very interesting to hear how 2 guys closer to the pointy end approached the prospect of running the tougher parts of the course.
We bumped into GNSCON at the start of the bridge at darling harbour and ran and chatted with him to the Harbour Bridge where he headed over. We headed around the Opera House and botanic gardens and back through the city, to Anzac Bridge and Lilyfield Rd to Montage.
All up, just over 20kms in 1.50, a bit longer on the feet than planned, but a very comfortable pace, so a nice way to head into a taper proper. Also fantastic to see some rain about even if it made for very cold and blustery conditions.
Fantastic fathers day, with my father and family around enjoying a very wintery lunch of shepherds pie. Even got to watch the footy on sunday arvo - unheard of!
